About the Rail Trail Bridge

The Rail Trail Pedestrian Bridge will connect Charlotte’s Uptown and South End neighborhoods, envisioned to become iconic infrastructure and an important link between two of the city’s major employment hubs. The Rail Trail Bridge is made possible through an unprecedented partnership between the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Department of Transportation, as well as other private sector and nonprofit sponsorships, including U.S. Bank.

The partnership between U.S. Bank and the Charlotte Rail Trail is part of U.S. Bank’s Community Possible initiative. Their unified giving and engagement strategy, Community Possible, focuses on closing the gaps between people and possibility in the areas of work, home, and play. They believe the building blocks of all thriving communities where all things are possible include stable employment opportunities, a home to call your own, and a community connected through culture, arts, recreation, and play. Visit usbank.com/community for more information.

Closing the gap in the Rail Trail by linking Uptown and South End with a pedestrian bridge was a key component of the South End Vision Plan, adopted by City Council in 2018. It was also a strategy recommended by the Center City 2020 Vision Plan.
